We meet in La Paz, Bolivia, to travel to the town of Sajama. We'll climb from 3,500 meters in the city to 4,200 meters in the village, so acclimatization is essential. In the afternoon, we'll explore the town, allowing time to admire its chapel and rest.
On the second day, we'll travel to the base of the volcano to begin the trek to high camp (5,700 meters). There, we'll receive the group's gear delivered by porters and prepare to rest for the next day's ascent.
This day we will attempt to summit the volcano (6,542 meters). We begin the ascent at 2 a.m. The first part of the trail is composed of rocks and dirt until we reach the snow; depending on the weather, the glacier may have penitentes. After several hours of climbing, we reach the immense flat summit, a crater filled with snow and ice. We will return along the same path to high camp, where we will rest before descending the next day.
After breakfast we will descend to the base of the volcano and head to the Hot Springs for a restorative soak. We'll then return to La Paz by private vehicle. End of services.
