The highest volcano in the world.

Nevado Ojos del Salado is a stratovolcano located on the border between Chile and Argentina. At 6,893 meters it is the highest volcano in the world and the second peak in the southern and western hemispheres, only surpassed by Aconcagua.

This gigantic volcanic complex is located east of Copiapó (Atacama) and west of Fiambalá (Catamarca). Its main block culminates in 3 peaks. The highest summit ends in two rocky towers of equal altitude, these two maximum levels of the Main Peak are called: West tower and East tower, known as the Chilean summit and the Argentine summit.
In this expedition we will ascend the Chilean route.
This Volcano is located in the great Atacama Desert, in an extremely arid and desert area of the Andes, surrounded by many volcanoes and hills over 6,000 meters high, which makes this place undoubtedly earn the name of the “Route of the six thousand”.
If you have an ascent plan (+6000mts) before this expedition, you can opt for a limited 7-day version:

On the second day, after a delicious breakfast in this place, we will travel to the San Francisco Pass, which establishes the border with Chile. This place will be the base for the climbs that await us: Falso Morocho (4500mts), Bertran Volcano (5260mts), which will allow us to adapt to the altitude. All this added to delicious meals and time for the necessary rest will prepare us for our final objective. On the sixth day, we will attempt to summit the San Francisco Volcano (6016mts) Once at the summit, depending on the time and the weather, we will take the well-deserved photos and enjoy the view of the nearby volcanoes, with the Incahuasi (6648mts) in the foreground. We will return to the camp in Las Grutas, to wait for the next day and complete the procedures to leave Argentina and then those to enter Chile. Laguna Verde will be our resting place before beginning the ascent to our main objective.
On the eighth day, we will move to the Atacama Refuge, 5200mts, where we will make our base for two days. On the tenth day, we will ascend to the Tejos Refuge (5900mts) from where we will attempt the summit the following day.
On the day of the summit of Ojos del Salado (6893mts), we will start our activity very early and here we will see the results of our days of feeding. We have 1000 meters of elevation gain, crossing the glacier at the base of its summit tower and climbing on rock to crown it, descend and return to Refugio Atacama. The time at the summit will depend on the weather conditions or the time we have arrived because there are time limits that must be respected for safety.
The next day we will return to Laguna Verde and then to Fiambalá to finish our services.
If you want to start the expedition in Copiapó, be sure to write to us to receive the itinerary for that option.
