Plata Mountain (5968mts)

Your first High Mountain Experience.

Plata Mountain, a necessary step before Aconcagua.

Located in the Cordón del Plata, Central Andes, Cerro Plata is an icon of the place. The ascent to this hill is an almost obligatory step for many mountaineers who visit this mountain range and want to get started in high altitude mountaineering. It is the highest peak in that place. Conquering its summit will allow us to have a panoramic view of Cerro Aconcagua, Cordón de la Jaula, Vn Tupungato and the other 6000 located entirely in the province of Mendoza: the C° Negro Pabellon.
We invite you to participate in a unique experience, in which all services are included so that you only have to worry about your adaptation process to the altitude.

6-days shortened version: Vallecitos Mt. Expedition (5450m).
If you do not have mountaineering experience: 2x4000: Adolfo Calle Mt. + Stepanek.

Meeting with the guides, gear review. Last minute rental or purchases. Transfer by private vehicle to Vallecitos, 80 km from the city. Altitude adaptation trekking (4 hours of activity). Overnight in a mountain hut.

To facilitate the process of adaptation to the altitude, this day we will trek through the first part of the famous Cadenita, progressively gaining height towards the summits of Loma Blanca (3560mts), Arenales (3400mts), Andresito (3100mts). After that we return to the mountain hut to rest and prepare for the next day. Approximate activity time, 5 to 6 hours.

Starting from the refuge we will follow the path that will take us to the "El Salto" camp. We will climb the moraine of the rubble, and later “the hell”, the hardest and most mythical section of this portage. We will arrive at the Salto de Agua camp, base for several of the five thousand meter hills in the area, where we can see the entire Potrerillos valley from the balcony. After setting up camp we will have the rest of the afternoon free to rest. Approximate activity time: 4 to 6 hours.

Acclimatization day: mid-morning we will trek to La Hoyada camp (4670m) and continue a little higher if weather conditions permit. The rest of the day will be free to rest and recover.
Approximate activity time: 5 hours. Total elevation gain: 500m.

Free day to rest and prepare for the summit attempt.

Before dawn we will leave from the El Salto Camp towards Portezuelo Plata – Lomas Amarillas, Portezuelo Cerro Vallecitos – Cerro Plata, and the ridge and summit of Cerro Plata. This day we have an impressive panoramic view of the Tupungato Volcano, Cerro Aconcagua, Cerro Juncal, Cerro Plomo, also the Cordón and Quebrada de la Jaula among others. Depending on the weather, we will spend half an hour at the summit, and then begin our descent to the El Salto camp.
The group's condition will be assessed at all times because it is a long day. All decisions will be made based on the health of the participants, with their well-being as the priority.
Approximate activity time: 16 hours. Total elevation gain: 1700 meters.
