Cordón del Plata, Cradle of mountaineers
Vallecitos is the area par excellence to start or gain more experience in medium and high mountains. Among the many possibilities we find the ascent of Cerro Adolfo Calle and Cerro Stepanek as good challenges with beautiful views and which can be done on the same day. They are two of the most popular four-thousanders in the Cordón del Plata.
From its summits we will have an imposing panoramic view of Cerro Rincón, Cerro Vallecitos, Cerro Plata, Cerro Franke, Cerro Lomas Amarillas and the Precordillera.
With Silvina as my guide, I successfully summited my first two 4000-meter peaks: Stepanek and Adolfo Calle. She was attentive to every detail—insisting on proper hydration and nutrition—and made sure to wait for every group member to arrive. In my case—being the slowest one who always lags behind—she coordinated and guided every step of the way to the summits. I learned a lot about high-altitude mountaineering gear, and even discovered how simple it is to pack a sleeping bag into its stuff sack—something that used to be a real ordeal for me. I highly recommend Silvina; she is an extraordinary guide.
